The Men and Women of Pride and Prejudice: Simply discuss the characters of the story. How do they act, who do you like, what characters are annoying or comment on what other people think. Remember, this is a discussion. If you are simply posting your thoughts and then leaving, you're missing the point of the whole thing. React and interact with each other.

  1. I really like Darcy the way he is so cock and arrogant just makes me feel one with the book. I wish Elizabeth would stop rejecting him because he is my favorite character. Also this book reminds me of Tess of the d'Urbervilles or whatever villas she is, in that Jane is the prettiest so when money comes into play they just send her off. But i guess it's a little different because she likes the guy and he doesn't rape her. good book so far.

  2. My favorite and least favorite character is Mr. Darcy. He is a cocky jerk but there is a mystery about him that makes him irresistable. He is the guy these days that every girl can't help but fall for even though they know it is just trouble, or so it seems. Mr. Bingley is stupid and the stereotypical guy of the time. Predictable.

  3. My favorite character is most deffinatly Elizabeth because she is out spoken and does not hold back like when she totally fried Darcy! Darcy is such a jerk and treats Elizabeth like a little miniature ant and that she is worthless and then calls her ugly. I think Darcy needs to pull his head out of his buttoxx and treat people with the respect that they deserve and how they treat him! But i still really hope that they fall in love :) perfect match!

  4. Im going to have to agree with tori I like Elizabeth the most one because she is not afraid to speak her mind. Like at the dance she really did fry Darcy and didnt seem to be at all scared of the clash that could have happened between the social classes. And two she is SEXY!!!!!

  5. I like mr. Bingley, who is not stereo typical or predictable, hes just kind of out there always happy. He isnt stuck up like mr darcy and he doesnt treat people like dirt bags because he has more money then them. He's just there to have fun.

  6. okay so pretty much elizabeth is the sh..!
She doesnt bit her tongue and thats why that buttface Darcy is so in to her. (Weirdo) Now he on the other hand is rude for no reason and shows PRIDE that makes him have a huge ego. Get over yourself kiddo. But i agree with the dude above me i like Mr. Bingley he rocks.

  7. uhhhh.. i do not like any of them. Darcy seems too cocky like his poo doesnt stink or something.. Mrs. Bennet is annoying she is all up in the stuffff. Elizabeth seems ok.. a lot of people like her but she is just norm to me. i hate all the character pretty much.

  8. I like elizabeth, shes alright i mean if i had to be friends with any of them i would pick that kid with the red hair, hes funny lookin! Elizabeths mom is mean who just says their daughter is ugly!? and darcy is lagit! people stop and bow when he walks in...awesome!

  9. I have to agree with Megan. I don't hate them all, i just don't really like any of them a good amount. Darcy is, as everyone else said, very cocky. Elizabeth doesn't seem lilke anything special to me. She was one of the first girls to tell off Darcy though so I guess that's a good quality. Mrs. Bennet is too crazy for me. With all of the wanting her daughters to marry some wealthy man, it annoys me.

Mrs. Bennet is a completely crazy woman. All she cares about is money and cutting other people down. Mr. Bennet does everything his wife asks. Jane doesnt have much to her really. Mr. Bingley is a goofy fellow and is nice to lizzy. Miss. Bingley is a jeaslous wench. Darcy only goes by first impresstions and is very shallow. Elizabeth is a strong woman who holds nothing back and that is her greatest quality.

  11. The characters:
-Jane: The most beautiful out of the sisters and also I believe the oldest.
-Elizabeth: The other main character sister. She's the brunette that Darcey has the hots for.
-Mr.Bennet: We don't hear much about him, only that he doesn't rule that house, that's Ms.Bennet's job. He did however agree to go to the ball, that's nice--what a gentleman.
Mrs.Bennet: a synonom being that of a dog. I do feel sympathy on her because she is looking out for her five daughters, but she is such a control freak about it. You have to also give her credit for being one of the people that others don't like, for this part-I admire her. But she is a drama queen as well, so that shifts my opinion of her way back. Point taken, she's flat out annoying.
-The other sisters: utterly confusing to tell them apart. All I know is that their treating Mary like crap in the movie. Then there are I think the other two.
Mr. Darcy: Too bad his attitude was as sexy as his face, this character is a trocious mess. His pride make him come off as though he has a permanent stick up his butt. He is very high class socially and economically. (Random thought, but after every incounter they always show his hand. What's with that?)
-Mr.Bingley: The other rich guy who looks like Ron weisley in the movie. He is pretty nice but not as hot as Darcey. He is coming off to making a hit off with Jane; what a picture perfect couple.

  12. you know what, I change my mind. Mr.Darcey can't be that bad of a character. He is what brings all the characters out of their shells. It is people like Elizabeth who make a character like Mr.Darcey look like a bad guy, when really he is a gem.Yeah, that's right you heard me--a gem. If he was really a bad guy he would turn away to Elizabeth in the end, but he doesn't. As todays society, some people are filthy rich and still all they care about is money and social status even though the world is having econmoic stress. It is people like Darcey that make the world go round. Besides, his stubborness to dance with Elizabeth and mysterious unexpected ways with her are sexy. Mr.Darcey may be a an idiot, but aren't we kind of all a bunch of idiots? Not in the same way, but we are idiots. It's a character like Darcey that we learn to accept people for what they are worth, regardless of how mean they are.

-Mr. Darcy: The character that I like the most is. Even though he is wealthy and acts like he is so high up that's really not the case with him. He likes when Elizabeth fries his life. And even though Mr. Darcy wasn't attracted to Elizabeth to begin with when Elizabeth stands up for herself he becomes fascinated with her when Elizabeth fries his life.
-Elizabeth: She is my second favorite character. She always stands up for herself and is very outspoken. Elizabeth also doesn’t seem to care what people think.
-Mrs. Bennett: She is one of the characters that I like the least. She doesn’t seem to care about all of her daughters, only really the “pretty” ones who are likely to get married. Mrs. Bennett doesn’t even seem to care that she totally embarrasses Elizabeth in front of Mr. Darcy.

  14. Mista Darcy~! At first I thought he was a total creeper but he has that mysterious vibe to him that just catches my attention. By the end I'm suddenly jealous of Lizzy. Now I'm just like "dawwwiwannabelizzyrightnow<3"
As for Catherine and Lydia....especially Lydia...jeez talk about olden day annoying fan girls..they annoy me to no end. "Oh I love the soliders!"...I don't want to sound mean..i mean shes just a fictional character and all but Lydia an idiot..Wickham..really?..all right have fun getting statutorly raped.

  16. I hate how C-huck likes Darcy because of his cockiness. I personally am an extemely humble guy, and am completely disturbed when I see people abuse power. Darcy needs to take a slice of my humble-cherry pie, and I don't blame Elizabeth for turning him down constantly cause i would do the same thing. This is exactly why me and Chuck never worked out when we tried dating a couple years back..Poor piece of shizz you, still havent changed =(

I like Mr. Bingley just cause he looks goofy and it seems he doesn't really talk at all just a second sideline character to play a couple minutes off the script but he doesn't deny people or anything just goes around and be goofy lookin other people in the story thinks he's rich and a gentleman and i only think of him as a semi fruitloop

  18. my favorite person in this moive is Mr. Darcy i like him alot but no in any other way than a friend. i like the way he can just stop a room and have all eyes on him just like in the moive it's like he got this swagg that everyone like and he get money. And i dont like the the other guy you know the guy that hangs out with Darcy yea him i dont like him i think he's to soft

  19. i have to say that the mother is my least favorite, she is very annoying and hypocritical to her husband on the way they treat their daughters. but i do have to agree with Larvelle about darcy, but not only because he is rich. when he got his life fried up by eliza he didn't care. and eliza is awesome because she is a girl and can look at her in the movie, but she doesn't care who she is talking to, she says whats on her mind straight up.

  20. My favorite character is Mr. Darcy do to that fact that he sees the world as it is. This is a bad thing considering he is very strygent on people and in paticular a partner for his futor. Lukily he meets elizabeth because she flips his world on its head and proves to him that there is more to women then just having talent and being proper but willing to tell you the truth up front in your face versus kissing but all the time.

  21. I've read this book a couple times & ive seen the movie a million times. & i have to say, i love that each character has something to offer.

I love how jane is so sweet and shy. Elizabeth just has guts, she has the perfect attitude and can hold her own. Darcy is just a cock a$s but i think secretly he is a emotional and has some feelings. Bingley, is just so adorable because he just doesnt seem to care about anything. i agree with what alot of people said above.

THANK YOU MR.PRICE FOR FINALLY GIVEING US A GOOD BOOK!

  22. i agree with Lindsay, Elizabeth has a lot of guts. though shes not portrayed as the pretty one, she might as well be cus her personalities through the roof. She says whats on her mind. She frys almost the whole book with intelligent quick witted remarks. i love her. :) lls

  23. I personally like Bingley, he is a down to earth guy that is chill with everyone. Some people see him as cocky or whatever but I think that he is down to earth, he is hanging out with the one girl and he coments that elizabeth is also pretty. and i think that that just shows that he doesnt just think about himself but that he is trying to hook up Darcy.

I'm going to agree with Eric, in the book Bingley is a charming man. He makes everyone feel beautiful. Elizabeth is me like way back in the day. :) She is very shnarky, just like me!! Lindsey is correct, I feel like each character has their own distinguished personalities. I don't really like the language in the book, it's difficult to understand.

Darcy- hes a good person but most of the time he looks like a a**hole
Elizabeth- strong willed, kind, can fry anyones life if u piss her off
    Bingly- always looks happy
Mr. Collins- the wierdest, shortest, ugliest, and most awkward person ever
    Everyone else- wuteves

  26. Jumping into this blog a little late, but I'd have to say that a character favorite would be Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth, the chemistry between the two and corresponding events that surround them is certainly an enjoyable one to witness in the movie. Darcy portrays power and arrogance well, where as Miss Elizabeth (whom in my opinion is much better than Jane in both appearance and personality) carries herself strongly and such! I enjoyed watching this movie... I should probably begin reading that book...

Ipersonally like Mr Bingly. He is always happy. He never looks sad. You could proley kill a puppy and hed still e smiling. Elizabeth is awsome for completly frying up Darcy. Darcy he is kind of wierd. I get that " im only here for the food " vibe. Doesnt really look happy to talk to anyone while hes being a creeper in the back of the room. And it is wierd how when u put the movie in fast forward during the dance scene he is still in like super citizen slomo.

  30. I haven't read much, but i like Mr. Bingly cuz he is loaded but doesn't act like it or really show it. He is different then his family and a lot of people from that time period. I think Ms. Bingly is annoying. She thinks she is all that and a bag of chips. She just seems like she would be someone with a high squeaky voice and that could get very annoying.

Well, Darcy is a complete bung hole and makes me really upset. As i was reading I felt like tearing the pages out and burning them becuase he was such a jerk. Mr. Bingley, on the other hand, is really cool and nice. He's very easy going and seems like he'd get along with Mr. Price a lot. Ms. Bingley fits into Darcy's category of liking because she's a jerk too. In other words, I more or less agree with Clint a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Elizabeth Lowery!

I absolutely LOVE Mr. Bingley. He is so chill and down to earth. Like Clint said, he has money but he doesnt flaunt it like alot of people in that time period would have. I like him because no matter who you are, he gives you a chance (because of this he meets Jane). His friend Mr. Darcy is nothing like him so at the dance he misses out on a great thing (Elizabeth Bennet)

  33. Everybody tends to like a specific character based on their character @ school. For example look at c-huck. jk. But in all seriousness, the most entertaining character in the story is Darcy, due to his arrogance. This entertaining aspect is one of the few reasons i'm actually reading it. His lack of a "down-to-earth" character makes his a perfect target for Elizabeth's ridicule.

So I have read this book many times and i would definitely have to say that Mr. Darcy is my favorite character. There is just something about him that makes me fall in love with his character. Sure at the beginning he is a pompous butthole, but he becomes really sweet and loving. Idk that's just me.

  35. to everyone who said they like Mr. Darcy the best, you suck hes annoying. my favorite is Elizabeth shes witty and independent and cares deeply for her family. i also strongly dislike Mrs.Bennet shes annoying as crap and far from humble and her only concern is marrying her daughters to wealthy men, reguarless of her daughters likes and dislikes.

Okay, believe it or not, I read this book. But I was like in a daze so I barely understand what's going on. But I've come to the conclusion that I can relate greatly to Elizabeth. I am, like her, considered the ugly--no, "plain"--one of my family. Spending the summer with my late grandma was much like spending it with Mrs. Bennett, as she was always setting up stupid dates for me and my cousins. And she'd introduce my younger cousin as the "pretty" one, and me as the "amusing" one. That actually didn't bother me, as I'd much rather be amusing than pretty. And I never got dates with this pigs which was AWESOME (really). But I'm straying from the point. I like how Elizabeth, like myself, is rather outspoken and won't take shit from worthless tools like Darcy. However, I strangely find myself attracted to Darcy... it's inexplicable. Maybe I dig egos (that'd explain the Mustaine obsession). BUT OMG I'M OFF TOPIC AGAIN. Okay. I love Mr. Bingsley. He's so creepy and looks like Beavis but he seems like a fun dude. And now that I think about it I'm mostly like Mary (is that her name?) because I just stand in the background like "DUH" and I like to draw ok

    period 5!

All of the characters add their own personality and I can respect that because I get super confused with their names. A.K.A. there are a bajillion Ms. Bennets and what not. Mr. Bingley is a goofball and I can dig that. Jane seems to coast off of her looks. Elizabeth so far is my favorite though because she doesn't start out with Darcy's attention but she grabs it very quickly seeing as though he looks down on her first. Thats all :p

my favorite is Elizabeth like alot of other people. shes real and not afraid to say what she feel( and shes not a big crybaby like tess is). i love how she got Darcy's attention at the one dance. She has her own way of being her self. I DO NOT like Elizaeth's mother. She annoys me how she's so stuck up Jane's butt. ok she's pretty and thats seems to me that that's it. she's just like the rest of the girls who follow all the rules and keep their mouth shut at all times. oh and im not sure if this is me but Bingley seems kinda fruity haha he's funny but just strikes me as fruity.

  39. The characters of the pride and the prejudice are very entertaining. My favorite is Bingley because he's such a great spirit and he's always so happy all the time. He's very full of life. I dont really like Darcy very much. He's so stuck up and arrogant. But everyone else seems to like Darcy and hate Bingley. What is wrong with you people. Hate the nice fun guy and love the stupid stuck up guy. Yea thats creative...

  40. I like elizabeth because she speaks for herself and speaks the truth. I hate her mom because she said negative things about her daughters. Mr. Darcy needs to let loose and stop being a jerk.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Tyler McCaffery
Darcy, even though arrogant, is the most entertaining character in that he seems like the character that will have the most growth by the end and might not be as arrogant as he seems. And in comparison, Darcy is less arrogant than Mr. Collins.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Justin Koper

I like Elizabeths wit and spontaneity, like when she fried Darcy because he called her tolerably. Darcy is very arrogant and unappreciative and speaks his mind. I can see the corilation with tess of the durbervillies in that Janes mom is trying to get Darcy to like her because darcy is so rich. Just like Tess's mom send her away to get married to a rich man.

    ReplyDelete
  43. omg i hate Darcy! i cannot stand cocky people. he needs to be slapped around a little bit and told about himself. who cares if your filthy rich, money aint everything. && i like elizabeth because she doesnt really hold back she says what she's got to say and that is that. && honestly i dont like this book at all it bores me so much!!! =)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, overall, ill just go with Mr. Bennet. This is of course because nobody else will do it. But anyhow Mr. Bennet is a good man and overall gentleman. I do say this because of his actions between his kids wanting the best for them without going overboard like his ungreatful/intelligent wife, with the whole reading bit she does to look better. Yeah,.. Mr. Bennet is a winner. Not always in the light, but hey, its the small things that count.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My favorite character is Elizabeth. I like her because she speaks what is on her mind and isn't afraid to stick up for herself. Mr. Darcy is mysterious and I think thats why I have a love hate thing for him. Mrs. Bennett annoys me. And I feel bad for the youngest daughter because no one pays attention to her and no one cares what she thinks lol poor thing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I guess if I had to pick a good character it would be Elizabeth. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and I really like that! I don’t really like Mr. Darcy he is really cocky and has a big ego. Mr. Bingley is very predictable and yeah no one likes that. But its kinda boring I don’t like it.

So far my favorite character is Darcy. He may be a stuck-up rich snob half the time, but considering that he was raised in one of the richest families in a society that places a premium on wealth and status, he's more of a product of his environment. Besides, he's got a rapier wit, can be charming when he wants to be, and even sweet when Elizabeth's concerned. She seems to bring out the best in him, and actually has a personality of her own to boot (unlike the incredibly annoying Miss Bingly). She's smart, independant, and has no problem giving Darcy a good kick in the butt when he needs it. Which is why those two are the only characters in this book so far who I like. Most of the people who have commented seem to agree with me, except on one issue. It kind of surprised me how many people liked Bingly. To me, he seems kind of shifty, I have a sinking feeling that he's going to end up hurting Jane some how.

So i want to agree with Dylan when he says he dislikes how chuckie likes Darcy and his ego. Darcy may have the money and the looks, but the guy is a d-bag plain and simple. If he stays with that kind of attitude he'll have plenty of cobwebs in his undergarments. And dylan baby you don't have to worry about chuckie cause you have me now:):):)

  49. i love mr. darcy, in the begining he act like everyother kindo of noble man. He is stuck up, arrogant and rude but he is amazing!!!!! I mean hje may be one of the richest guys around, but in all seriousness, he is just a shy ad akward kind of guy. The only reason he plays off a arrogant type of guy is because he is just shy and doesnt know anyone, so i am pretty much agreeing with the majority of the people here (besides chuckie) that Mr. Darcy Rules!!

I liked Darcy from the beginning for the most part. His arrogant attitude that he had with everyone was mostly just because he was shy. He began opening up toward the end of the book, and wasn't so pompous and picky. I think that Mrs.Bennet is one of the most annoying characters. All she cares about is marrying off her daughters to whomever will take them. other then that she doesn't care about anything. Mr.Bingly was kind of wierd..

  51. Mary Rogers, Period 1

Eheh, last minute entry due to an annoying noreaster and my forgetfulness. My apologies.

Being biased because I've seen the movie first, I dislike Mrs. Bennet and three of her youngest daughters (Lydia, whatsername, and Mary-why-does-she-have-to-have-my-name-how-irritating). Mrs. Bennet seems so stuck-up and narrow-minded, like many have obviously already said.

But really now, I like Mr. Darcy. As Jordan D. said, he's shy. Perhaps I'm also just attracted to that sort of dynamic character. My other favorite is Elizabeth. I feel incredibly unoriginal for admitting it, but I really do like the two main characters and how they communicate. That makes it easier in the long run, since it encourages me to keep reading.
(Unlike Mr. Collin's pages of text whenever he's allowed to speak. I admit I even skipped a few of his lines simply because I knew he was spouting out sugar-coated nonsense.)

Oh, and I have to concur that Mr. Bennet is very much a close second favorite. I'm glad Elizabeth has him and Jane to be there for her and she them.

For anyone that likes Darcy, you are not very smart. He is a jerk who only cares about himself and his money. A good person to like would be Bingley. Bingley is a modest man who knows how to have a good time. He also cares about other people besides himself.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I really do like Mr. Darcy. Yeah, he's a jerk but he's totally awkward so when he tries to kinda woo Elisabeth it ends up funny. I also like Mr. Bingley, he's a kind gentlemen and he's totally in love with Jane. I feel really bad for Mary though, everyone says that she's not good at anything and that she's ugly. She's got like no chance in this book.

  54. MMMM i like Darcy. He's very delicious like and he has that sexy "i dont care"ness about him but you can tell he really pines obsessively for Elizabeth. I wish he pined for me. Well anywho i did think he was a doosh at first but now im emphaticaslly in love with the man.

  56. There is something about almost all the characters that is stoping me from deciding my favorite. Like how Darcy can't get past his child hood days of pretending to be a man. The guy just needs to grow up and get some social skills. Elizabeth is cool but there are some things that bother me, sometimes I think she comes off as not so understanding or stubern. I respect her for her outgoingness and strenght but come on give Darcy a break he hasnt hit mental puberty yet. Every one already knows that Miss Bingly and Mrs. Bennet are just out to screw everything up. Mr Bingly and Jane just seem to be high on love or mabye even shyness on Jane's part. infact Jane just kinda seems to be there in the relationship, not doin much just being in "love" or what ever. I don't know I guess Mr Bennet or the sister that every one hates is my favorite. Mr Bennet is kind and respectable and I just feel sorry for what ever her name is she isn't that ugly.

  57. When the book first introduced me to Mr. Darcy, I wasn’t sure what to think of him. But now that I’ve finished the story, I can say without a doubt, he is my favorite character. Personally, I can relate to his awkward and very timid personality. I’ve never been a very outgoing person and I can understand that sometimes there is just nothing you can do to change that fact. It can be very tough to feel so much and be able to share so little (orally that is). Another way that I’ve found myself similar to Darcy is situational; I once fell very deeply in love with a girl whom I’ve hardly spoken to even after all these years. Not because I hadn’t gotten the chance, but because I was immobilized with anxiety that stopped me from showing her who I really was and how I really felt for her. My anxiety led me to appear very unusual and nonsensical which didn’t help my chances in the least. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t mature socially until about 10th grade and by then, it was far too late. So, by seeing Darcy win the girl of his dreams I was able to glimpse back upon my own life and daydream how things could have been (which emotionally attached me to this story).
On another note, I’ve fallen in and out of love with other women but not to the extent of this one special case. Currently I’m in a relationship with a girl whom I love very much and couldn’t possibly complain about how things actually ended up=)
    ….yup
